Jenny loved the fairground. She tapped her way forward, as she always did. And they made way for her, as they always did.
She absorbed the sounds of the fair. Touts barking absurdities, children screaming and parents yelling, secret lovers whispering, discordant music, coins jingling – a wondrous symphony of pointless hilarity that Jenny could never be a part of.
At her age she should be used to it. But the sadness they saw in her ruined and useless eyes never changed.
